Honorable Mention Award – Maine Lobster Festival 2019

Wow! I am excited.

Last year I earned two awards.

This year, I received the “Honorable Mention Award” for the painting “Morning at the Docks”.

Morning at the Docks, by: Jo M. Orise
Looking at it, I remember its creation.
I began with a photograph I had taken of the Port Clyde, Maine dock.
I was, at the time, interested in sunrises and sunsets. How best to represent them. On the ocean seemed best—all that reflection and color glow.
Having gotten married on a schooner, I became smitten with a love for tall ships.
Here I imposed, for my personal pleasure, a schooner in the distance, waiting for morning to be off into the sunrise. But then, why not two ships? They often anchor in a harbor together. Why not in my little harbor scene?
Now we had two schooners.
Then I thought, there’s room for one more alongside those little boats waiting for the fishermen and captains of ships who slept ashore with their loved ones.
Three schooners now lie in wait in the harbor at Port Clyde. The dock depicts fishermen, having arrived from shore and from the sea, beginning the day’s work. Young men, older men, young women, older women, all beguiled by the sea.
The gulls greet the day, announcing a new beginning.
Life on the sea begins anew with the rising sun.

Love to hear from you.

Maine Lobster Festival Open Juried Art Show Opens
Friday, August 8, 2018 Winners are contacted.

July 31, I submitted two oil paintings. Keeping my fingers crossed. Have not been rejected yet. :-)

Theme being the lobster festival and the Maine Coast, I decided to submit these two paintings.
I know it is late notice, but as you know I am 'always busy' and me keeping up with me is sometimes hard to do.

Oil, 18x24". "Entering Deep Cove", Maine Coast.

I just love water and reflection
Oil, 24". "Grace Bailey Anchored at Curtis Light"

Oh, my photography skills are not great. The original painting looks brilliant and the colors are fantastic.

See the artwork at my website: jomorise.com

We sailed the Grace Bailey. This was the view I got when we rowed back to the boat after lunch.

If you have time, come to the Lobster Festival, look up Camden National at 300 Main Street, Rockland—located on the corner of Maine and Park Streets. Parking in the back.

See ya.

Today, I have cause to celebrate! My art is now displayed at the Ducktrap Bay Trading Company gallery in Camden, Maine. They have a terrific collection of high quality crafts and fine art. The focus: Marine Art.

The owner exudes positive attitude and is so energetic, one can't help being swept up in his enthusiasm. I am very pleased to have met him.

When you visit the gallery, you will fine a few of my pieces there. Come on in to the Ducktrap Bay Trading Co., on Route One, Downtown, Camden. You will be utterly impressed at the selection of marvelous works displayed throughout the shop.
