Source: This lady was a great model. Having sketched her from life, I spent weeks finishing up from a photograph. Took most of the summer, but I enjoyed every moment.

Although portraits are a challenge, I love every minute of it.

Fishing Boat at Low Tide

Source: Penobscot Bay, at the beach. I combined the fishing boat with the low tide at Birch Point Beach. There the clouds are lovely to watch.
The boats and clouds sit, waiting for the tide to rush in.

Source: Penobscot Bay, at the islands. This represents my memory, after visiting Monhegan Island, watching sailboats navigate around the bend, returning to the mainland at Port Clyde.

Rumor is, "Spring has arrived." Therefore I am getting my artwork ready for upcoming art shows. My plan includes group shows and solo shows.

• A 'Like' AND Written Words are always appreciated. It is delightful to have people "like" my work or "not like" my work. I welcome honest critiques

•  Critique: a careful judgment or opinion about the good and bad. Questions may be  asked, such as:  'have you tried.....' or 'have you thought of....." or "why did you do/say that?" Critiquing is something I introduced to my art students as well as to my animation students. It is practiced to assist one in a journey of creativity without being rude. Critiquing art and manuscripts has been around since the 1800s.

After working so many hours, a simple "like" is nice, but words have more lasting power. 

Oh, but I do "like" lots of things—popcorn, pizza, comfortable shoes, being in a "flow state."  (See previous post re: 'flow state')

Yes, I plan to open my home studio to the public by appointment. It will be fun to find out what will happen.

Jo M. Orise July 2013 Art Update

Last summer and winter found me painting up a storm. Still am. This is one of my paintings for the Black Falcon gallery in Thomaston, Maine.

In addition, I have one-man-show in the dining room of  The Brown Bag Restaurant / Cafe, 606 Main Street, Rockland, ME for the month of July.

People with a taste for great food flock the restaurant every day.

Come to the shows to support the other local artists and me. If you purchase a painting, part of the proceeds are donated to the Soup Kitchen. What a great excuse to buy a new painting—from me of course.

Oh, I know the banana painting is 'different'. I let my imagination loose. Hunger for art and food—how do I tie the two together? Ah! Food on the beach of course! Therefore "Monhegan Bananas" emerged from the canvas. It is a 7x7" gallery wrap painting. That means the painting continues around the edges of the canvas.

The other painting, is Curtis Light. It is on display at the Small Wonder Gallery, Camden, Maine. It is a cute 5x5" gallery wrap painting as well. I just love ocean waves. They are so dynamic and difficult to paint. But I'm working at it. My work can be seen there for the season.

I also have art work hanging at the Store Upstairs Gallery in Port Clyde, Maine.
